PEOPLE:
The principal of the firm, Stephen Y.L. Cheung, MAIBC, has over 20 years of architectural experience in Canada. Since graduated with a bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Toronto in 1988, he practiced as an intern architect in well acclaimed firm Shore Tilbe Irwin and Partner (1988-1992) in Toronto, and other local well established firms such as Roger Romses Architects and UDG Architects, etc. (1993 -1998 ) in Vancouver. He was registered as licensed arhcitect in Ontario in1993, and in British Columbia since 1996. He started his own design studio SITL back in 1998 and formed an architectural partnership SC+DCYT Architecture as one of the partners in 1999 and established the firm Stephen Cheung Architect (SCA) as the Principal in 2000. He completed the AIBC’s continued professional education program- Building Envelope Courses and the Examination for Building Envelop Specialist back in 1998. During these years, he has involved as project designer, job captain, project architect, partner-in-charge, on a number of develoment and instutitional projects such as Scotia Bank Head Office Building, Business School -Mcmaster University, Kaneff Center -University of Toronto, Liberty Plaza Shopping Center in Oregon, Premium Condominium Waterford in West 14th, Hastings/Holdom mixed used developments, etc. His interest in architecture and design has lead him into exploring architectural ideas through smaller scale work such as St Patrick Sacristy, Rosedale Studio and competitions such as Vancovuer Waterfront Competition 1998, etc. Recently, his entry in Design your dwelling 2008 hosted by Google SketchUp and Dwell was named as a runner up.
