swimming pool house HO RESIDENCE

First Shaughnessy Area, Vancouver, BC

2005 Completion

Ho residence is a 7,000 sq ft house designed for a family of five- a middle age Asian couple with three kids. One of the major program component is an indoor swimming pool. Since the design of the house was very strictly controlled by the comprehensive design guidelines of the First Shaughnessy Area which only allow new building with traditional character for heritage designated lot, our design features a house with a traditional “Tudor” style expression, and a separate swimming pool wing that is pivoted off at an angle. This wing building is contemporary in plan, forms and materials, and set up an interesting dialogue with the traditional counterpart of the house. Their interface is underlined inside by having a lookout from the family room overlooking the swimming pool. The back side of the main house is also given a more contemporary expression in forms and material.
