INTRODUCTION: J2-Jessica is a women fashion boutique that has been operating at Oakridge Shopping Center back since 1995. By 2003, the owner was relocating to a new bigger location (2,000 sq ft) and looking for a very distinctive image to reflect the product they carry. However, seeing the brand products they now carried has changed to a younger hip group, the owners realized that a new bolder image was something they looking for.

CONCEPT & STRATEGY: our design featured a design that display a fluid, curvilinear look and a mono hue white color scheme with red accent, which worked well with the owner’s change of styling and specialization of clothing.

STOREFRONT & CASHIER: the two most distinguished elements in the new store: a 16 ft long storefront display and a 12 ft long cashier counter receive a glossy lacquered paint. These two units blend into the white surroundings with red valance lights around. The storefront and counter tiles were bright red subway tiles to give it a very hip and “retro” undertone, but the overall store still displays a clean and modern air. All walls, ceiling and bulkheads were painted white color with red valance lights. The newly poured white seamless epoxy concrete flooring provides a slick neutral background to display any floor merchandize.

CUSTOM DESIGN: speaker covers were custom made on the walls, same as the J2 logo laid with 1×1 mosaic tiles were used on the front where customers walk in. The signage was a combination of 1″ thick Plexiglas up lit to give a ring effect where the letters are cut.

FURNISH: a modern style bright red velvet low back club chair and a high gloss chair with curvilinear design of the 60’s and 70’s style were selected. Others include a modern chrome finish coffee low table, and plastic pendent ball shaped lamp. We also selected a velvet red curtain for the fitting room that was seamed and put together by the owner.

CONSTRUCTION: the construction was handled under SCA working joint venture with SKYMARK  engineering Ltd in a construction management team due to the tight time schedule and restrained budget, and it was completed in 9 weeks.
