Oakridge Shopping Center, Vancouver

2007 completion

J2-MEN is a menswear boutique shop at Oakridge Shopping Center back. Realizing the brand and products they carried are very unique, the owners wanted to have a very different image for the store. CONCEPT AND INSTALLATION: to give the new store an image that is very different from the other J2-jessica store they had in the same shopping center, our approach was trying to kept most of the structure and lightings that was left there, and give it a very dark contemporary underground look. The ceiling was painted black with the dropped ceiling mounted with a bold b/w graphic of fashion slogans. The existing wood floor was sanded and stained to a dark ebony color, while all the walls were painted black and different shad of grey. The MDF panels that were left behind the existing custom display system were covered with notice board black vinyl to give it a street look feel. As the sneakers was part of the merchandize to be promoted strongly, the back wall of shoe display shelves was painted white instead to create a halo effect behind the existing poles that was painted black. The back wall behind the existing counter were covered with a strong street look print, while the back wall of the fitting area use a graphic of muted print of blow up garment. Here we want to juxtaposition prints image of different era that represent past, present and the future. We also propose to have the outside sign that also extended inside the store to be covered with a dark grey vinyl film that had cut out to suggest a night scene of a building.
