J2 JESSICA fashion boutique remodeled
oakridge shopping center, vancouver
2008 completion
This project is to remodel the existing J2 jessica fashion store that our firm designed at Oakridge Shopping Center back in 2003. Since then, the existing store has established a strong brand image in the mind of their clientele of young demographics group. However, seeing the products they now carry have changed to less feminine, they were looking for a different image. CONCEPT & STRATEGY: with a limited budget on this remodeling, our design was to keeping the main “structure” bone of the space and change with a very different color scheme that complements with the change of styling and specialization of clothing. However, the two most distinguished elements from the existing store, i.e. the 16 ft long front storefront display and the 12 ft long cashier counter remained the same, to bring it out more so. Once a complete blend into the white surroundings with red accent lights, now they display a strong contrast to and show a little mechanistic quality to it. The storefront and counter exterior subway tiles were all painted dark grey that look like painted bricks to make it more raw look. The store now has a more contemporary, gothic and underground feels to it. New mirror were added over the fitting area screen on the floor area side that bounce off more light and provide a rather fragmented reflection within the darker interior. New white and black horizontal shelves were added for more t-shirts and handbags display. The flooring was covered with wood laminate flooring which provides a neutral background to play off strongly with the cashier counter station and also requires less maintenance. Ceiling was painted black with the circular dropped ceiling painted a dark grey, etc.
