YAOHAN CENTER is an Asian shopping center on No. 3 Road, Richmond Shopping District. The center wanted to add a new seating area with a traditional Chinese rock display on the 2nd floor. Rather than using a traditional Chinese rock display from a souvenir store, we proposed a modern abstraction of a rock wall that acted both as focal point for the new seating area and as a visual screen to the east side looking out to Landmark Plaza. An array of stone were used includes copper toned, white marble, black slate. A waterfall feature was incorporated in the rock wall, with a bottom ledge filled with black pebbles. A cut out aperture on one of the main rock section was proposed for Feng Shui reason. The seating area was arranged “offset” or “pivoted” to provide access from the sides rather than from the center. New stained wood benches with bamboos planting were used as a screen on the back. New suspended halogen track lights were added for spotlighting.
